These sisters shared the same bed with England's king...

• One became Queen of England.
• One vanished into obscurity.

500 years later, both their bloodlines shaped British history in ways no one could've expected.

Here's the full story: 🧵
Born into a modest noble family around 1500, Mary and Anne Boleyn's early lives couldn't predict their extraordinary futures.

But their ambitious father had bigger plans...
He secured young Anne a place at Europe's most prestigious finishing school - Margaret of Austria's court.

This was HUGE. It's like getting your child into a Spielberg movie today...
Meanwhile, Mary stayed home doing embroidery.

But her chance would come in 1514, when both sisters were chosen as ladies-in-waiting at the French court.
Here's where their paths dramatically split:

Anne → Thrived in French culture, mastered politics
Mary → Caught the eye of King Francis I, became his mistress

Word of Mary's affair spread. She disappeared for 5 years.
In 1520, Mary resurfaced in England...
And married William Carey.

King Henry VIII attended their wedding. Big mistake.

Soon after, Henry began pursuing Mary himself. As a married woman, she had little choice but to become his mistress.
Meanwhile, Anne returned from France in 1522.

She was different from any woman at the English court:
• Witty
• Educated
• Fashionable
• Charismatic

Even while Henry was with Mary, people couldn't take their eyes off Anne.
By 1526, Henry was obsessed with Anne.

But unlike her sister, Anne refused to be his mistress.

When he pursued her, she literally fled to her family castle.

This only made Henry want her more.
What happened next changed England forever:

Henry decided to divorce his wife Catherine of Aragon - his marriage of 20 years - to marry Anne.

When the Pope refused, Henry:
• Broke with Rome
• Created the Church of England

• Changed the course of history
During this time, tragedy struck Mary.

Her husband died of sweating sickness in 1528, leaving her nearly destitute with two young children.

Anne stepped in to help, securing her sister a royal pension.

Their relationship seemed strong...until Mary made an unforgivable choice.
1533: After 7 years of waiting, Anne finally became Queen.

But her triumph was short-lived.

She gave birth to a daughter (future Queen Elizabeth I) instead of the son Henry desperately wanted.
Then in 1534, weeks after Anne suffered a devastating miscarriage...

Mary showed up at court:

• Newly married to a common soldier
• Visibly pregnant
• Glowing with happiness

She had married for love without permission.

Anne was furious.
The consequences were severe:

• Mary was banished from court
• Cut off financially
• Never saw her sister again

But in retrospect, this "disgrace" might have saved her life...
Because in 1536, everything fell apart.

Anne suffered another miscarriage.
Henry fell for Jane Seymour.
And Thomas Cromwell, Anne's former ally, turned against her.
The charges were shocking:

• Adultery with 5 men
• Incest with her brother
• Treason

All fabricated. But in Tudor England, accusations = guilt.
On May 19, 1536, Anne Boleyn was executed.

Her last words: "I hear the executioner is very good. And I have a very small neck."

Just 11 days later, Henry married Jane Seymour.
But here's where history takes an incredible turn:

While Anne died tragically, both sisters' legacies lived on through their children.
Anne's daughter Elizabeth became one of England's greatest monarchs:

• Queen Elizabeth I
• "The Virgin Queen"
• Ruled for 45 years
• Created England's Golden Age
And Mary?

Her children became influential courtiers.

Even more remarkably, her bloodline continued through the centuries all the way to the current British Royal Family.

King Charles III is a direct descendant of Mary Boleyn.
Two sisters.
Different choices.
Both their bloodlines are on the throne.

History has a sense of irony, after all.
