New York, New York

A short film made ENTIRELY from stock footage re-imagined by Runway's Aleph.

Process and examples are below, in the thread.

Enjoy! https://t.co/fE1RbWN6Cl
First, I had to find a prompt that matched the vibe I was looking for.

I settled on something simple, plus additional things on the way, depending on the footage:

"Change everything to be abandoned and in a nuclear winter, hazy, eerie, and apocalyptic."
But I needed an intro. Why did New York get obliterated?

Short answer? Nukes! https://t.co/j21nRtk7ju
I licensed all the footage from @Artlist_io and I went to work!

67 stock clips from NYC in total.
119 Runway Aleph clips rendered. https://t.co/h1VVB9htKD
Lots of them: https://t.co/0iy2S8oOG5
Then, I needed a character to be the central focus.

I went super simple and chose:

"A man wearing a yellow hazmat suit and a black motorcycle helmet walks forward/sits on a bench/etc." https://t.co/wTixzDU7zv
I tried to maintain a consistent color palette and vibe across all generations, but I kept retrying until I found something similar, so it didn't feel out of place.

About 70% of the clips were good from the first try. https://t.co/Vy1d0PrfMb
While generating, I went to YouTube and searched for a cover of Frank Sinatra's New York, New York.

I needed something different enough to upload to Suno and create a cover.

I found this Tony Ferrari one. Superb:

I gave it this prompt, and magic happened:

A slow rock track with eerie undertones opens with sparse, detuned slide guitar and minimal, reverb-soaked percussion. The arrangement is stripped back, featuring occasional twangy acoustic licks and haunting pedal steel. Rough male vocals ride atop, amplifying the song’s unsettling country vibe
I mastered the song, so it now sounds better and wider, creating the feeling of a massive empty space.
I put everything together in CapCut, color-matched it, added a few grain layers, and made minor adjustments to make it all work together. https://t.co/7qfERbQZ3u
That's it, pretty much!

Here are a few more comparisons between the original stock footage and the Runway outputs:
